One Good Year
Based on the book by Jordan Reeve
Hello! Welcome to an interactive chat for One Good Year. Ask me anything about making meaningful change without overhauling your entire life at once.
I feel stuck in my career. Is this book for me?
Almost certainly. One of the core ideas is that career drift and life drift are the same problem. Jordan's framework teaches you to start with one commitment and grow from there.
What's the core idea? Is this for career changers? Where do I start?

The story behind the chat

I wrote Startup Stages, a book about scaling companies through phases of growth. The whole framework runs on a metaphor: your earliest days feel like punk rock and a mature company runs like a symphony but, in between, you need to learn to play jazz. People loved the idea, but it never fit into a blurb and readers kept coming back with the same question: "How does this apply to my situation?"

I couldn't jump on a call with every reader, so I built a chat page for the book. I sent newcomers there to grasp the framework and readers there to work through their specific scenarios. Both groups loved it. Then I realized most authors have ideas bigger than a blurb and readers who want to keep the conversation going. I built ChatMyBook so every author can give their audience the same interactive experience.

Answers before you ask

Non-fiction works especially well — business, self-help, memoir, how-to, and thought leadership. Readers of these books tend to have follow-up questions, and a companion chat is a natural fit. Fiction works too, particularly for books with rich worlds and characters.
No. Your book's chat answers questions and discusses ideas — it doesn't reproduce your writing. There are safeguards that prevent readers from extracting large portions of your manuscript, and you can configure your book's chat to be even more cautious if you prefer.
Your manuscript belongs to you, period. ChatMyBook processes your content through secure, enterprise-grade pipelines configured to disallow model training. Your book, your ideas, and your stories are never used to train AI models.
Yes. You set behavioral guidelines and scope boundaries during setup. Want to avoid spoiling the ending? Done. Want to keep it focused on the book's core themes? No problem. You can update these settings anytime.
Not at all. If you can fill out a form and upload a document, you can create a companion. Setup takes about 5 minutes, and the hardest thing you'll have to do is copy and paste.
You can upload a docx or plain text file. You can also just copy the full text and paste it into the form.
Your chat will interpret and build on the ideas that you share with it. Use a clean draft to promote while you finish copy editing. Limit your upload to select chapters as a teaser or include exclusive content to drive traffic to your chat page.
ChatMyBook was made by a full-time product builder and part-time author. This is a passion project to empower other authors to share their work and connect with audiences in new ways. Subscription fees are primarily to cover costs for technical infrastructure and customer support.
